Eyes on China Project is a new Instagram feed that aims to highlight new perspectives on the middle kingdom, through the eyes of local and international photographers.

Masterminded by long-term AP photojournalist, Kevin Frayer, the feed is an eclectic mix of viewpoints that takes viewers to all corners of the country, often providing a surprising and intriguing mix of subject matter and scenes that aim to show new glimpses of the constantly changing superpower.

Waterfalls in the Jiuzhaigou National Park in south-west China. High in the mountains of northern Sichuan, the Jiuzhaigou National Park is a spectacular area composed a series of valleys, containing a myriad of lakes, rivers and waterfalls. They are surrounded by forests that are home to the giant panda, red panda and golden monkey, among many other species. It is this unique setting that has caused the rise in popularity of this park since the early 1990s, when it was awarded Unesco World Heritage status. Since then, visitor numbers have increased year by year. In 2007, it was estimated that 2.5 million people visited the Jiuzhaigou Park. I was thrilled to be asked by Kevin to become a contributor to the feed and have begun by sharing a story I did on the Jiuzhaigou National Park in China’s south-west province. Well known to Chinese people, many outside the country have never heard of this visually spectacular region, located in the country’s main biodiversity hotspot. I hope this coming series gives people a glimpse into a region they previously knew nothing about.

Hope you enjoy the feed!
