Leonardo DiCaprio & Everyday ClimateChange on Instagram

Followers of my work will know that for sometime I have been a contributor to the Everyday ClimateChange feed, an initiative that aims to highlight the effects of climate change across the world.

Finding friends and advocates across the world who are working to highlight the same issue has helped to bring about a collective awareness which reaches all corners of society.

Entertainment is one industry that has an important part to play in spreading the message about climate change and environmental issues. The vast audiences that industry commands helps spread the message far and wide that we need to care about our collective impact on the planet.

That’s why I was pleased to see that actor and environmentalist Leonardo DiCaprio has been sharing images from Everyday ClimateChange with his substantial following on Instagram. This week he shared an image of mine which was taken while on a reporting trip about the effects of climate change on the Tibetan Plateau, specifically looking at its impact in wetlands.

In many of my public speaking engagements when I discuss my work on environmental problems, I am often asked what the solution to these problems are. I give my professional and personal options but I don’t always have the answer. But what I do always say is that as a photographer and filmmaker I am only one ‘cog’ in the wheel of raising awareness about these issues. Many of the answers to our collective problems will come from all corners of society. Whether you are an actor, a businessperson, a politician, a scientist, a teacher, each and every one of us has our own role to play. You just need to work out how you can get involved and make changes.
