If you were reading the Guardian recently, you may have seen two of my images appear in the article “Facing Extinction, Tuvalu considers the digital clone of a country”.

Have you heard of Tuvalu? If you’ve followed my work over the past few years you have surely heard of it. But for those who are unfamiliar, Tuvalu is the world’s 4th smallest country by land area, with a population of only 11,000 people spread out over a number of islands in a very remote corner of the south-west Pacific Ocean.

I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to visit the country in 2019, spending almost 3 weeks documenting the effects that climate change is having on the country. The main visible effects are the impacts of rising sea levels. The country’s highest point is only a few metres above sea level, placing it in a very perilous position.

Some experts predict this may be the first country lost to rising sea levels and climate change impacts. Hundreds of Tuvaluans have already fled to other nearby countries.
