China’s Disappearing Glaciers – Pulitzer Center

Meltdown: Climate Change and Environmental Degradation on the Tibetan Plateau for the Pulitzer Center on Crisis Reporting “Watch out!” came the scream from behind me. As I turned around, people were scrambling for cover when a rock, the size of a microwave, plummeted towards us. Pressing ourselves quickly against the cold wall next to us, the rock landed at our feet, smashing noisily into the icy floor. “That was close,” laughed my guide next to me. The sounds of rushing […]

New Pulitzer Center Project Now LIVE – Tibetan Plateau & Climate Change

I’m delighted to announce the launch of my new project for the Pulitzer Center on Crisis Reporting, “MELTDOWN: CLIMATE CHANGE & ENVIRONMENTAL DEGRADATION ON THE TIBETAN PLATEAU”, which just launched today on their website. This project will take an in-depth look at many of the challenges facing the plateau and its people, as a result of warming temperatures and a changing climate in the region. Here is the project overview… The Tibetan Plateau covers approximately 25 percent of China’s surface […]

Hailuogou Glacier – Tibetan Plateau [Mobile Upload]

After two and a half days of travelling, I have finally reached my destination for the week, the Hailuogou Glacier, on the south-east edge of the Tibetan Plateau. I’ll be writing more about this incredible glacier soon, but here is a glimpse of it. The clouds are rolling in. Time to shoot…

The shoot consisted of setting Michael in an ‘urban’ setting, according […]

Buying a Camera? Here’s a Free Tent!

27.06.12 – I decided to upgrade my camera this week and plumped for the new Canon 5D mark III. Excited to start putting it through its paces on a new trip in the south of China next week. One other thing that might come in handy is what’s in the blue bag. When you buy camera equipment in China, they often like to throw in some freebies to sweeten the deal. Today, I was offered a Canon branded tent to […]

Graffiti In Wonderland – Beijing

17.06.12 – Assignment today took me to the north-eastern outskirts of Beijing to visit one of the city’s oddest attractions, ‘Wonderland’, an abandoned theme park. The park was left deserted when construction funding dried up, leading to the half-finished park being left to the advancing shrubbery which is now slowly taking back the land. The highlight of the park is a Disney style castle which towers above what is now mostly farmland. It’s a bizarre but interesting place which is […]
