10 Images of Air Pollution in China
China has been in the headlines again this week for its infamous air pollution hitting hazardous levels again.
According to an article in the UK’s Guardian newspaper, “China, the biggest emitter of greenhouse gases in the world, is suffering from serious air pollution, largely attributed to smog from coal-fired power plants.” It adds that the “onset of winter and the need for more heating of homes means the problem has intensified in the capital, which has an estimated population of 20 million.”
This is an issue I have documented many times as I have spent time in China. It’s a scourge that blights the lives of millions of people and is causing untold damage to the health of the country’s urban residents.
Below I share with you 10 images from my collection with National Geographic Creative that give you glimpses into the lives of people who have to live with this issue everyday.
